DON'T TURN OFF THAT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT INCORRECTLY!
Turning off that check engine light by removing the battery cable for a few seconds or clearing the code with a scanner can cause you more trouble than you realize. Clearing that code from your computers memory (turning off the check engine light) with a scanner on an OBD-II or CAN equipped vehicle will also clear all of the computers readiness monitors. Getting those monitors to run again and reset can then be quite a task. Some vehicles especially Mercedes Benz and many Asian vehicles are very hard to reset, in fact, the average mechanic may never get them to run or reset correctly. Remember all manufactures drive cycles are different. The proper way to shut off that check engine light and the proper fix is to repair the problem and then drive the vehicle thru that monitor. When the computer sees that the problem is fixed the computer will turn out the check engine light for you. This is the proper professional fix, believe me, there is no other way.
